With a current annual steel production capacity of 2.4 million tons, since 2010, JSIS has been regarded as the preferred and trusted supplier of high-quality long steel products to clients in leading and rapidly growing economies of Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Beyond the GCC, JSIS supplies steel products to clients in the far-flung parts of the globe, including those in Europe, the Far East, China, Canada and Australia.
JSIS is the only mill in the GCC to have Vacuum Degassing facility which enables to produce a wide range of grades.
Unique to JSIS as a steel manufacturer, is JSIS’s location on the Sea of Oman and by extension, the Indian Ocean. In addition to ground transport through the Muscat-Dubai highway, with a dedicated 600-meter jetty, JSIS benefits from un-impeded inflow of raw materials and outflow of steel products by marine vessels sailing from the four corners of the globe.

Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Plant
DRI Furnace has a capacity of 1.8 MTPA for the production of Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) and Hot DRI (HDRI).
This plant has achieved 15 MTPA within 10 years of operations.
The furnace is first of its kind in the world equipped with Hot Link Technology.
This facility enables to charge HDRI at a temperature of around 600 - 650OC directly in to Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), thus substantial savings in energy is achieved.
DRI operation continues to be cited by Midrex in various international forums as the Best Operating Plant worldwide in terms of plant availability, continued efforts in the modifications of the equipment and processes leading to high level of plant performance and productivity, etc.
On May 30. 2011 the DRI Plant was dedicated to the Sultanate of Oman by His Excellency Sheikh Sa'ad bin Mohammed Al Sa'adi. Honorable Minister of Commerce and Industry in the esteemed presence of Mr. Naveen Jindal - Chairman. JSPL Group and other dignitaries from across Oman and worldwide. Mr. Naveen Jindal praised the support of His Majesty from the initial days of takeover till the date of dedication.
Steel Melt Shop (SMS):
Jindal Shadeed has its state-of-the-art Steel Melt Shop of 2.4 MTPA capacity, which was commissioned in the Year 2014 with a record duration of 27 months to produce square and round billets. Capable to produce 8 different Sizes I.e 130Sq, 150Sq, 165Sq, 200dia RD, 220dia RD, 280dia RD, 350dia RD & 406dia RD.
The plant consists of state-of-the-art steel making facilities with the best features in terms of product range and productivity. The technological solution is characterized by the choice of high quality and productivity facilities by which it is possible to achieve extremely efficient operating results and specific energy consumption, thereby making the plant highly competitive.
The plant is designed according to the latest technology in the field of steel plant machinery and equipment. Jindal Shadeed's adoption of an innovative iron to steel conversion process called Direct Hot Charging, wherein Hot Direct Reduced Iron (HDRI) at around 600-650°C temperature is charged directly into Electric Arc Furnace of SMS, thereby lowering energy requirements and increasing efficiency. Other methodologies experience substantial temperature losses.
Jindal Shadeed is also known for its Product chemical composition with Zero tramp elements ( Tramp elements are detrimental for strength of the steel) attributed to use of virgin raw material usage.
This places Jindal Shadeed at a competitive advantage over other players. With the comprising facilities producing square billets, round billets and blooms, Steel Melt shop has catered to wide range of semi-finished product in applications like seamless pipes, rebar’s, wire rods, automotive and forging.
SMS comprises of:
200-Ton Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) equipped with UHP Trafo.
200-Ton Ladle Refining Furnace (LF). This is for Secondary Metallurgical Processes: The use of secondary metallurgical processes, including Ladle Furnace (LF) and Vacuum Degassing (VD), would address special industry needs.
200-Ton Vacuum Degassing (VD) Unit. (World-class Vacuum Solutions from Edwards Vacuum Pump Mechanical Type has been established).
Matching 8 strand Combi. Continuous Casting Machine to produce Square and Round Billets/Blooms.
The Caster is first of its kind in the world – Biggest Combi Caster in the World.
8 Strand Billet Caster: Dedicated production for own Rolling Mill (165 mmX165 mm Square Billet).
After commissioning of 2nd Billet caster SMS capacity is increased to 2.4 MTPA.
Rolling Mill :
The latest addition to Jindal Shadeed's array of innovative facilities is a prestigious 1.4 MTPA Rolling Mill with advanced technology and equipment set up in collaboration with Danieli, Italy. The mill is capable of producing rebars as per all international standards in Jan’16.

Heat treatment equipment with QTB (Quenched & Tempered Bar) Technology. BGV: It is a fast finishing block with90 Degrees stands with twin motor of 4.4 MW. It has highest speed of 45 meter/second while rolling of 8 and 10 mm which is world's highest.
The state-of-the-art mill with utmost mechanization & automation boasts the largest rolling capacity in Oman, which produces Jindal Panther Brand of Rebars of consistently high quality.
The mill can produce rebars in diameter ranging from 8mm to 40mm meeting all the required international standards and grades.
The state-of-the-art processes used to manufacture Jindal Panther Rebars coupled with most modern Steel Making and Refining Processes, result in a clean and homogeneous steel quality.
Jindal Panther Rebars are manufactured using Quenched and Tempered Bar (QTB) and Self Tempering Technology, which results in high strength and ductility due to fine grain multi-phased composite structures.
They also meet Ultimate Tensile Strength to Yield Strength (UTS/YS) ratio and high percentage elongation, producing a superior earthquake resistant quality due to high energy absorption capability.

Lime and Dolo Calcination Plant:
Jindal shadeed, as part of improving the quality of products and reducing the dependency on outside sources, initiated Lime and Dolo Calcination Plant Projects at JSIS site, Sohar.
This project consists of 2 units of 300 tpd capacity each to enable the production of 300 tons each of Calcined lime and Calcined Dolo on a daily basis. This will be consumed internally and a minor portion of it will be available for market for sale.
On completion of this project, it is expected to be one of the most compact and best environmental friendly plant having negligible emissions and disposal of Dust due to inbuilt secondary dedusting systems employed at Lime & Dolo plants as well as Lime Injection systems employed at Stele Plant to utilize complete Lime/ Dolo fines generated during the system as these are transferred and transported Pneumatically, without any exposure to open environment.
The Technology selected is of Regenerative Vertical process Kilns for Calcination of Both LimeStone and DoloStone. This regenerative Kiln is a double Shaft Kiln based on the regenerative technology featuring the latest technological innovations resulting from Cimprogetti’s Know where each shaft alternatively works in combustion or Preheating mode
